Near here in 1809, David Thompson built the first fur-trading post in the Pacific Northwest. Hope is in Bonner County on the north shore of Lake Pend Oreille on Hwy 200, the Lake Pend Oreille Scenic Byway. There is also a Hope, North Dakota.
