Winchester Lake State Park33 miles southeast of Lewiston off US 95 |
Winchester Lake State Park surrounds a 103-acre lake, nestled in a forested area at the foot of the Craig Mountains. The park has a modern campground. Picnicking and hiking are popular summer activities. In the winter the park offers cross-country skiing, ice skating, and ice fishing. Winchester Lake lies in one of the more severe climatic zones in the country. Winters are long and cold with snowfall. Summers are short with generally warm days and cool refreshing evenings. Their are healthy stands of Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir. White-tailed Deer, Racoon, Muskrat, and the Painted Turtle roam the area. The most popular activity is fishing for Rainbow Trout, Bullhead and Largemouth Bass. Small boats with no motors are allowed.
Many of Idaho's most beautiful and scenic spots are preserved in the Idaho State Parks system.
