Grand Detour

Grand Detour is located in northwestern Illinois in Ogle County southwest of Rockford between Sterling and Mt. Morris along Highway 2 on the banks of the Rock River.

The town is most noted for housing the first workshop of John Deere. He invented the first self-scouring steel plow in 1837 which helped turn the vast prairielands of the midwest into the most fertile cropland the world has ever known. His headquarters later found its way to the Rock Island-Moline area to facilitate distribution via the Mississippi River.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Castle Rock State Park and White Pines Forest State Park lie just minutes to the north of town.
