Lawrenceville is located in southeastern Illinois in Lawrence County (of which it is the county seat) northeast of Mt. Vernon between Mt. Carmel and Marshall on the banks of the Embarras River along Highway 1 about 10 miles west of the Wabash River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 4,332, a decrease of 565 since 1990.
