Lebanon is located in southwestern Illinois in
St. Clair County about 25 miles east of
St Louis between
O'Fallon and
Salem along U.S. Highway 50 about 10 miles west of the
Kaskaskia River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 3,655, a decrease of 33 since 1990.
A variety of architectural styles including English Country, Georgian, Gothic, Greek Revival, Italinate, Queen Anne and Southern Colonial. The town's main festival, "Dickens Days", is held each April honoring world famous author Charles Dickens who once stayed at the Mermaid Inn in 1842. It is said Dickens used the area as a model for his classic "A Christmas Carol."
Other area diversions include shooting a round of golf at Locust Hills Golf Course.
Those desiring a post-high school educational experience can avail themselves of McKendree College, the oldest college in Illinois.
