Litchfield is located in central Illinois in western
Montgomery County along historic
Route 66 and SR 16 about one mile east of
Interstate 55 and 5 miles west of 1,500-acre
Lake Lou Yeager. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 6,632, a decrease of 251 since 1990.
One of the summer highlights of 2003 was a celebration of the town's Sesquicentennial during the Fourth of July weekend.
