Mackinaw is located in central Illinois in
Tazewell County southeast of
Peoria on the banks of the Mackinaw River about 15 miles east of the
Illinois River along SR9 about 6 miles east of
Interstate 55. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,422, an increase of 91 since 1990.
The 1,400-acre Mackinaw River SFWA offers residents and visitors a chance to fish, hike, hunt and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
