Mascoutah, established in 1837, is located in southwestern Illinois in
St. Clair County about 25 miles east-southeast of
St Louis and 10 miles east of
Belleville, the county seat, along Highway 177 about 7 miles north of the
Kaskaskia River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,603, an increase of 92 since 1990.
For golfers wanting some work on their short game the town offers Stein's Nine Par 3. Other diversions include "Springfest", which is a one-day event held in May and "August Fest", held the first weekend of August.
