Mermet is located in southern Illinois in Massac County south of Mt. Vernon between Metropolis and Vienna along U.S. Highway 45 about 5 miles north of the Ohio River and about 10 miles southwest of the Shawnee National Forest.Other recreation in the area includes activities in, on and around Mermet Lake SFWA and Mermet Lake.
