Oswego, incorporated in 1852, is located in northeastern Illinois in northeastern Kendall County about 50 miles southwest of Chicago and just south of Aurora along U.S. Highway 34 on the banks of the Fox River. The town's name is of Mohawk Indian origin and translates as "Mouth of the Stream". The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 10,536, an increase of 6,587 since 1990.
The village is reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting and boasts one of the state's finest public golf courses in Fox Bend Golf Course. Upscale tearooms, a splendid variety of antiques and specialty shops round out the town's tourist appeal.
For outdoor enthusiasts, Silver Springs State Park is conveniently located about 10 miles to the southwest.
