Kendall county was created in 1841 and is located in northeast Illinois west of Chicago and Will County.
The county is named for Amos Kendall, Postmaster General under President Andrew Jackson. Kendall was also a partner of Samuel Morse, inventor of the telegraph.
Although the county seat is Yorkville, Oswego served as the seat from 1845 to 1865. Yorkville is situated along the scenic Fox River just east of Silver Springs State Park.
The county population on July 1, 1999, was 53,659, an increase of 14,246 over the 1990 census.
