Pittsfield is located in western Illinois in
Pike County (of which it is the county seat) about 35 miles southeast of
Quincy and about 20 miles inland from the
Mississippi River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 4,200.
Area recreation includes trips to Ray Norbut SFWA and the Illinois River 10 miles to the east and Siloam Springs State Park located about 20 miles to the north-northwest.
One of the most photographed buildings in Pike county is the courthouse which is an octagonal building constructed of Cleveland sandstone and has a central dome reaching a height of 136 feet.
