Pomona Natural Bridge

This beautiful stone bridge, near Pomona in the Jackson County portion of the Shawnee National Forest, is one of only a handful of natural bridges in the United States. It has a span of 90 feet and is between 6-and 9-feet wide.

From Murphysboro take highway 127 south 9 miles to Pomona road; then west 3 miles.

Water erosion had the most powerful effect here, whereby it gradually washed away softer, less resistant sandstone leaving a natural rock bridge, spanning 90 feet.
