Ramsey is located in south central Illinois in Fayette County about 70 miles northeast of St Louis and 15 miles north of Vandalia along U.S. Highway 51 west of the Kaskaskia River and north of Vandalia Lake. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,017, an increase of 42 since 1990.
Ramsey Lake State Park is only minutes northwest of town and offers nearly 1,900 acres on which to hunt, fish, camp, hike or horseback ride. Other outdoor recreation comes in the form of Ramsey Lake Golf Course.
