Rantoul is located in central Illinois in
Champaign County just north of
Champaign between Champaign and
Gilman along
Interstate 57 near the
Sangamon River.
Rantoul has everything from antique shops, crafts, gift and dress shops, an Amtrak station, Chanute Air Force Base, a nice selection of restaurants, bed and breakfasts, specialty shops, two 18-hole golf courses including Brookhill Golf Course, an athletic center and the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum. In addition, the U.S. National Hot Air Baloon Championships are held here every August.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 13,945, a decrease of 3,267 since 1990.
