Yorkville is located in northeastern Illinois in Kendall County (of which it is the county seat) about 50 miles southwest of Chicago between Aurora and Ottawa along Highway 47 on the banks of the Fox River near Lake Holiday. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,953, an increase of 1,979 since 1990.
Silver Springs State Park is a favorite recreational spot for the locals and is located only minutes west of town. The park offers an equestrian trail and a remote control air field as well as more traditional pursuits such as camping, hiking and fishing.
Other local attractions include the "Chapel on the Green", which was built in 1855 and features an 1899 pipe organ.
