Planning for Howard Community Hospital began in 1953 and after a lengthy planning process, the Howard Community Hospital Foundation was formed in 1958 to raise the funds needed to build a 100-bed hospital at a projected cost of $2.5 million. In 1959 ground was broken; and on December 3, 1961, the first patient was admitted to the new Howard Community Hospital.
