Minneapolis is located in Ottawa County, (County Seat). Along Hwy 106 on the banks of the Solomon River, this is a rural community in the farmland of N. Central Kansas. Historically, farming and agricultural related businesses have been the mainstay of this community. Farming continues to be the backbone of todays economy with 250,000 acres of cultivated land surrounding Minneapolis. Ottawa State Lake & Park and Salina lie to the south.

Additional fishing lakes nearby; Wilson Lake, Kanopolis Lake, Milford Lake and Glen Elder State Park. For hunting enthusiasts, hunting in the heart of Kansas offers some of the best upland bird, white-tail deer and turkey hunting in Kansas.

Minneapolis is the official boyhood town of George Washington Carver. The Ottawa County Museum has an illuminating display of the famous Agricultural Scientist's life and work. The "Red Post Tours" are driving tours with red post markers along each of several driving routes.
