Located in the
North Central Region of the state, in
Trego County. In 1867, a Blufton stage station running the Butterfield trail, (See:
Smoky Hill Trail, was a stop off for a party of freighters transporting a threshing machine bound for Salt Lake City. Instead of camping in the open prairie they chose to put up camp under the bluff/canyon opposite a rocky ravine. Indians had been watching the men and later killed and scalped all of the men, they then set the threshing machine on fire.
This historical site is near Cedar Bluff State Park.
