Threshing Machine Canyon |
Located in the North Central Region of the state, in Trego County. In 1867, a Blufton stage station running the Butterfield trail, (See: Smoky Hill Trail, was a stop off for a party of freighters transporting a threshing machine bound for Salt Lake City. Instead of camping in the open prairie they chose to put up camp under the bluff/canyon opposite a rocky ravine. Indians had been watching the men and later killed and scalped all of the men, they then set the threshing machine on fire.
