Located on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University, the Hummel Planetarium was opened in 1988 utilizing a Spitz Space Voyager projection system under a 67 1/2-foot dome; it is currently one of the largest and most sophisticated planetariums in the United States. The facility's projectors are capable of creating a sky as seen from any point on Earth up to 100,000 years in the past or future.
The planetarium offers a variety of school and public programs, and special events throughout the year; a star show provides an assortment of astronomical information and a night sky presentation. A 4.5 watt, multi-gas laser system is used for special laser light shows.
Open evenings, Thursday through Sunday; closed major holidays.
