Located on the campus of Western Kentucky University, this museum has a wide assortment of artifacts that include Indian and pioneer relics, decorative art, tools, toys, early musical instruments, textiles and costumes. Permanent exhibits include displays relating Victorian-era Kentucky, guitar-maker Hascal Haile, prehistory, and a log house set up on the grounds.
The Museum and Library's huge combined historic resources serve as a unique repository of state archival information; the library contains rare books, photographs, maps, sheet music and other printed material that preserves Kentucky history and geneology. The museum also sponsors a great variety of public activities and workshops throughout the school year; guided tours are offered by appointment. Open Tuesday through Sunday, closed Monday.
