Old Fort Harrod State Park

Located downtown, this park is situated on land orginally colonized by Captain James Harrod in 1774. From mid-April through October costumed artisans portray residents of this first permanent English settlement west of the Alleghenies and demonstrate crafts. A reproduction of the fort includes replicas of Kentucky's first schoolhouse, a militia blockhouse, and pioneer cabins furnished with items used in home industries.

Other attractions on the fort grounds include a Mansion Museum, pioneer cemetery, the Lincoln Marriage Temple, Federal Monument, picnic area and playground, and gift shop. Fort open daily, year-round; closed Thanksgiving, Christmas week, and Mondays in January. 9am-5pm in March through October; closed major holidays.
