Located just six miles south of Lexington's Main Street, this state historic site features a circa 1847 Greek Revival mansion situated on 10 acres. The living house museum is funished with antiques and other historic and personal items. The originally 2000-acre estate also includes a icehouse, smokehouse and servant's quarters have been restored. Picnicking is permitted.
Guided tours outline early Kentucky slave life, and include outbuildings, flower and herb gardens, and a short nature trail. Day and evening group tours available with advance scheduling. Special Christmas tours and afternoon teas are scheduled annually, reservations are necessary for these special events. Picnic facilities and a playground are provided. Waveland is open Monday-Saturday, March 1 through mid-December.
