Port Hudson State Historic Site

At this park you can step back in time by taking the wheelchair/stoller-accessible trail and elevated broadwalk over the breastworks in the Fort Desperate area, along six miles of trails through beautiful hardwood forests and over the ravines which formed defensive boundaries. Three observation towers link the battlefield visually. The 909-acre site also features a picnic area, four outdoor cannon displays, a museum with an audio/visual program, artifacts and interpretive displays which enable the visitor to see the tremendous effect the Civil War had on the life and culture of Louisiana. Costumed rangers, special events and reenactments provide a unique and educational experience for all.
