Thistlethwaite Wildlife Management Area |
Thistlethwaite is 11,000 acres in size and is owned by the Thistlethwaite heirs. The trees are predominantly oak, most commonly water oak, willow oak, overcup oak, Nuttall oak, cow oak and post oak. Other kinds are bitter pecan, sweet pecan, hickory, hackberry, sweetgum, and maple. Deer, turkey, squirrels, swamp rabbits, ducks, and woodcock can also be seen. Trapping for furbearers is allowed and animals permitted to catch are raccoon, mink, bobcat and opossum.
