This museum contains local history exhibits including a 22-foot model of a 1904 sugar mill and a restored American Empire-style bedroom. Various 19th century documents, tools and memorabilia also are featured. Two relocated historic buildings are on the premises: an antebellum slave cabin from Allendale Plantation and the Aillet House, a French Creole cottage built by a successful planter around 1830. Please allow at least 30 minutes for the tour, which is free. The museum is closed on all major holidays.
