The commune of Nommern, population 955, is located in central Luxembourg, 20 kilometers north of the capital,
Luxembourg City, just east of the
Alzette River.
Nommern is home to the Nommerlayen, big blocks of sandstone formed 200 million years ago while Luxembourg lay beneath the sea, then broken apart and thrown upwards by tectonic forces, forming cliffs, caves, plateaus, and crevices.
Cruchten, Nommern (population 262), Ober-Niederglabach, and Schrondweiler are boroughs within the commune of Nommern.
The N9, running parallel to the Alzette, passes through the riverfront borough of Cruchten.
