The commune of Rumelange, population 4,309, is located at the southern tip of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, on the French border, 12 kilometers south of
Luxembourg City.
Rumelange, nicknamed town of the Red Rocks for its ferrous soil, was the center of the iron mining industry in Luxembourg, but declining quality of the iron ore forced the eventual closure of the last mine, in 1978. In its place, we now have Luxembourgs National Museum of Mining.
