Coltons Point Maryland

South of St. Charles in St. Mary's County, Coltons Point lies on Hwy 242 at the edge of the Potomac River and of Clements Bay. It faces St. Clements Island, where the `Ark` and the `Dove`, carrying the first Maryland settlers, dropped anchor on March 25, 1634. On this Potomac River island, Gov. Leonard Calvert and Jesuit Father Andrew White erected a large wooden cross and performed the first Roman Catholic Mass in the English-speaking Colonies. A replica of the `Dove` is permanently docked at St. Mary's City on the St Mary's River.
