Pocomoke River State Forest & Park |
Featured at this 14,753-acre state forest and park, famous for its cypress swamps, are the Shad and Milburn Landing areas along the scenic Pocomoke River. The river originates in the Great Cypress Swamp in Delaware and flows southwesterly 45 miles to the Chesapeake Bay. Creeks, tributaries and marshlands between Snow Hill and Pocomoke City offer a multitude of outdoor activities that include hiking trails, a full-size marina with boat launch and rentals, a large swimming pool, visitor center, picnic areas, and shaded campsites.
Over 50 species of fish contribute to the area's plentiful fishing opportunities; other wildlife includes river otters and bald eagles. A 'Fish for Fun' pond is located across from the marina parking lot, which r equires a freshwater license. Off road vehicles are permitted in the Chandler Land Use Tract, located across from the Shad Landing entrance; a permit is required.
