Stanwood Homestead Museum |
Located on Hwy 3 just south of US 1. Built in 1850, The Stanwood Wildlife Sanctuary, commonly known as Birdsacre is a rare and less traveled gem set on the busy road to Bar Harbor. On the 185-acre Sanctuary, traced with nature trails is the home and birthplace of Cordelia J. Stanwood, a pioneer Ornithologist Photographer. Her 1850 house museum tells her paramount tale alongside original furniture. A Nature Center showcases rare mammal and bird mounts, egg and nest collections, along with wildlife art. At the center of the Sanctuary are a series of bird shelters for non-releaseable owls, hawks, and songbirds. Open free of charge 7 days a week.
