Part of a small complex of buildings that include the pre-Revolutionary John Perkins House; the Wilson Museum features an appealing view of the water and displays of items from Europe, Africa and the Americas; exhibits include local American Indian artifacts and a collection of quaint and historical Castine memorabilia. The Perkins House, restored to its original condition, displays period furnishings and is open for guided tours; a large blacksmith shop featuring equipment from the late 1800s, and seasonal blacksmithing demonstrations, is also included. Open Tuesday-Sunday afternoons, end of May through the end of September. Special programs are held on Saturday, Sunday in July and August; admission to the museum is free to the public. Located between Tarratine and LaTour streets, on the 'ocean' side of Perkins.
