Online Highways Home > Michigan > Coldwater Coldwater is in Branch County (of which it is the county seat), and in the West-Southwest Region. This community is located south of Battle Creek between Three Rivers and Adrian along US Highway 12 near Randalls Lake and Lake of the Woods. Situated just north of the Indiana/Ohio state lines. Coldwater was settled in 1830 by Allen Tibbits and Joseph Hanchett. The town officially received its name in 1833, after the township, which was named for the river running through it.
