Niles is in
Berrien County, and in the
West-Southwest Region. This community is located southwest of
Kalamazoo between
New Buffalo and
Three Rivers along US Highway 12 on the banks of the St Joseph River near
Lake Michigan and the Indiana state line. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 11,899, a decrease of 559 since 1990.
Niles is part of the Benton Harbor, Michigan metro area.
Niles has 3 large antique markets within its limits and there is another large antique mall south of the state line on US 33.
The St. Joseph River offers recreation for both residents and visitors. You can fish along the banks or canoe down river. There's also the annual Niles Riverfest held in August. The "Anything That Floats" event is a popular event for participants and watchers.
