Near Dawson are a state park, a county park, Churchhill Dam, Lac qui Parle Refuge, Lac qui Parle Hunting Camp, Lac qui Parle Lake, Marsh Lake Wildlife Management, Pioneer Village, and The Ox Cart Trail. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,463, a decrease of 163 since 1990.
