In the Red River Valley Region, Fosston is located in Polk County. Fosston was established in 1883 when the Original Thirteen Towns (Townships) were opened for settlement. It lies on US 2 southeast of Crookston. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,425, a decrease of 104 since 1990.
