Glensheen

This was the 1908 estate of attorney, mining entrepreneur and state legislator Chester A Congdon. The 22-acre property on the shore of Lake Superior includes formal gardens and a Jacobean-style manstion containing original furnishings. A collection of carriages and sleighs is displayed in the carriage house. A separate tour of the third floor and the attic is available; this tour covers an additional six bedrooms and explains the steel beam structure of the home and how it was constructed. Guided house tours are conducted daily 9:30am-5pm, June 1 to mid-October; Saturday & Sunday 11am-2pm the rest of the year. Weekday schedule varies mid-October to May, call ahead for hours.
