In the
Historic Prairies Region, Granite Falls is located in
Yellow Medicine County, southeast of
Montevideo on US 212, on the banks of the Minnesota river. A pedestrian bridge leads to Rice Park and the Granite Falls Dam.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 3,116, an increase of 33 since 1990.
