Minnesota Museum of Mining

This museum is housed in a caslte built in 1933. One of Chisholm's WPA projects, it was originally designed as a part of an athletic complex. There were 12 stone tourist cabins built near by and the entire area was surrounded by a large stone wall. More than 30,000 tons of stone were used to construct the wall which encloses the 19 acre park. All rock used was surface stone, hand-chipped, taken from the site only. An ampitheater was built on the east end of the complex. Plays were put on by the residents depicting how and when they came to Chisholm. In later years, Chisholm pageants and high school plays were also held there. In the early 1950's the idea came to Odin Rudstrom and Peter Del Greco to make the area into a museum. Many items have been donated for display by local residents and area businesses.
