Silver Bay Safe Harbor and Marina |
Newly opened to the public in the summer of 1999, the facility is the first in a series of safe harbors to be built along the North Shore of Lake Superior. The breakwater provides a protected-water basin of more than 7 acres for recreational boaters. The marina offers a public water access with 3 boat launch ramps, and a separate pier that can be used by divers to more easily access and explore the shipwreck of the 'Hesper;' transient, monthly, and seasonal slip rentals; gas and diesel sales; sewer pump-outs; and some merchandise. Bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities are available in the Administration building. Approximate season is May 15-October 15; hours of operation are 8am-6pm, 7 days a week. There are currently no maintenance facilities or boat lift-out provisions. The Marina opened in August of 1999.
