UMC gained recognition as the first campus in the nation to issue laptop computers to all full-time students. The school has also been acknowledged a national leader in the area of innovative polytechnic education. UMC offers 19 technical bachelor's and 13 associate's degrees. Consistently ranked among the top 20 public universities in the nation. The campus encompasses 237 acres, located on the northern edge of Crookston. The University of Minnesota Northwest Research and Outreach Center is adjacent to the Crookston campus.
