Majestic trees tower above the rich delta stretching all around Big Oak Tree State Park, a National, natural landmark. The 1,005-acre park gets its name from giant trees, a number of which have been identified as the largest, or "champions," of their species.
A boardwalk through the park allows visitors to get a close-up view of this remnant of the vast swamp forest that once covered Missouri's Bootheel. Displays in the nature center interpret this vanishing landscape. The park, designed for day use, has a small lake for fishing.
