Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this was the last home of Jefferson Davis, U.S. senator and Secretary of War as well as President of the Confederate States of America. The 1853 house and pavilions are restored on 52 acres of landscaped grounds; furnishings are mostly original Davis pieces. Other accessible portions of the property include the Confederate cemetery, a museum, Davis Family Gallery, Theatre, Tomb of the Unknown Confederate Soldier, and gift shop.
A recently-opened Jefferson Davis Presidential Library includes an extensive Southern history archive, a portion of Davis' personal library and documents with a biographical exhibit on this Southern political figure, and a theatre/lecture hall. Group tours of the main residence and the cemetery are offered and group rates available; call tour office for reservations. Open daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas.
