The Jordan Wildlife Station National Wildlife Refuge is part of the
Charles M. Russell Nat. Wildlife Refuge surrounding
Fort Peck Reservoir. The refuge is classified as "
Missouri River breaks" habitat, which is typified by deep coulees and large buttes. The area is semi-arid with rolling prairies falling off into the "breaks" and finally meeting the lakeshore in the valleys below. Throughout this untamed wilderness wildlife abounds. A plethora of species is located here, including elk, mule and white-tailed deer, bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope, mountain lion, bobcat, coyote, and badger. Bald and golden eagle are common visitors here. Viewing them is best during the early morning or late evening hours.
The refuge is 25 miles of Jordan off Hell Creek Road.
