Lolo Pass Visitor Information Center |
The Lolo visitor center serves as one of the many historical landmarks off Highway 12, the Lewis & Clark Highway. The buildings were part of the old Mud Creek ranger station, built near Lolo Hot Springs in 1923. In 1977 they were moved to Lolo Pass and restored.
The center displays information on the journey of the Lewis and Clark Expedition across the Bitterroot mountains and the 1877 flight of the Nez Perce Indians. It also provides historical, natural, and general information about the area. It is open from 8:30 to 3:30, seven days a week from Memorial Day through September. As the winter season is also quite busy, the center sells parking permits and carries maps during winter hours from 9:00 to 4:00, Monday through Friday, from December 1 through March.
