Conover is located in Catawba County between Statesville and Hickory along US Hwy 70 near Newton, Claremont, Lake Hickory and Lookout Shoals Lake on the Catawba River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,829, an increase of 518 since 1990.
