Hickory is located in
Catawba County northwest of
Charlotte between
Morganton and
Statesville along Interstate 40 on the banks of the Catawba River near
Conover,
Newton,
Claremont,
Lenoir, and Lake Hickory. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 31,523, an increase of 3,049 since 1990.
Nine individual properties and three historic districts in Hickory, are listed in the National Register of History Places.
