Statesville is located in Iredell County (of which it is the county seat) between Winston-Salem and Hickory at the junction of I-40 and I-77 near Salisbury, Mocksville, Hiddenite, Lake Norman State Park, the Catawba River, and the South Fork of the Yadkin River.
The city has a rich architectural heritage. In Historic Downtown Statesville you will find architectural examples of Richardsonian Romanesque, Beaux Arts Style, Elizabethean Style and stylized Victorian influence. There are also four residential Historic Districts - Broad Street/Davie Avenue, Mitchell College, Academy Hill, and Race Street.
