Lake Norman is the largest manmade lake in the state. The surface area is 32,510 acres with a shoreline of 520 miles and a main channel 34 miles in length, 13 miles of which are in the state park. In addition, the park has it's own lake where swimming, fishing and boating are enjoyed. It has been nicknamed the "Inland Sea" by the locals.

Tent pads, picnic tables and grills are available at 33 camping sites.
