Lumberton is located in Robeson County (of which it is the county seat) south of Fayetteville, between St Pauls and Rowland along US Highway 301 on the banks of the Lumber River near Pembroke and Bladenboro. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 19,076, an increase of 420 since 1990.
